Ring game
A ring game is a name given to a cash game or to live action games that are played with real money at stake. Players can choose to enter or exit the game whenever they feel like it and upon exit, they take whatever money they have won, as a part of their stack.
This is a contrast to poker tournaments where there is fixed prize money associated to the finishing rank and with a definite list of competitors.
Players can buy in as many times as they desire and at whatever time they require it. Players may not, however, remove a part of their stack i.e. Ratholing is strictly prohibited. If a player wishes to remove a certain quantity of chips then s/he needs to leave the game and then return to it with the buy in fee. In most cases, there is a minimum time frame after which these players can join back.
In ring games, there is no increase in the blinds and antes, unlike in a tournament where these are constantly raised throughout the game at intervals. Tournaments are also rigid in the type of game that is played however in case of cash games, there can be any number of variations depending on the options of the players.
In the case of no-limit games, there is always a limit on the maximum buy in to ensure that players do not gain an advantage due to bigger buy-in amounts. Ring games in many casinos require the house to take a rake from the ring game only after the flop is shown. Along with the flop, the pot must reach a minimum value as well, before the rake can be taken from the pot.
Ring games also allow the usage of straddles or double big blinds that can be placed by the player who acts first. If the bet is not raised by any subsequent player, then the first player is allowed to raise it again. Similarly, chops are also a part of ring games where players are allowed to withdraw their blind bets if no one else places a bet.
