Upstairs

Upstairs actually means the same thing as a raise, which is the process of increasing the size of the bet, which is required to stay in the pot. This results in other players having to call the new or raised amount, if they wish to remain in the pot. The first raise, or the raise which occurs when the pot limit is nothing, is known as the opening bet. The raise that follows the opening bet is known as re-raise.

Another feature of an upstairs, or a raise, is that it must equal the least amount equal to the previous raise or bet.
