Underdog

In poker there will always be stronger hand, and a weaker hand, i.e. a hand which has a better chance at winning as compared to another hand. The weaker hand, or rather the player holding the weaker hand is also known as the underdog. This term is used mostly when players express exact odds.

For example, suppose Player A flops four cards to his flush, then he is almost 2:1 underdog to make the flush by the river. Basically the mathematically less likely to win is called the underdog. It is also possible that a hand which may have started out as a strong hand, may eventually end up as the underdog as the game progresses. The term underdog is sometimes shortened to just dog as well.
