Top pair
The top pair is said to be the pair of cards of which one card is held in the hand by a player whereas the other card is the highest card on the board, amongst the community cards. As a result, the top pair is the highest card in play and therefore, is impossible to beat by another pair. In the worst case scenario, a top pair can be tied by another player and in that case, the kicker comes into the reckoning.
For e.g. if a player has the hand J-6 and the community cards show up as 4-7-8-J-2, then Jack-pair becomes the top pair.
