Three pair

In a seven-card game such as seven-card stud or even Texas Hold’em, there is always a possibility that due to the number of cards being placed on the board as well as in hand, players can end up having three pairs. While the player can only use two of those pairs at any given time, as a part of the 5-card hand that s/he is supposed to use for competition in poker, such a situation is sometimes referred to, albeit jokingly, as a three pair situation.
