Set
A set is a hand where the player has three cards of the same rank. However, there are two major differences in this format as well. In case a player has one card in hand and two amongst the community cards on the board, then it is said to be a trips. For the three-of-a-kind to be called as a set, the player must have the pair of similar cards in her/his hands whereas the third card appears on the board.
For e.g. let us assume that a player receives the hand 6-8. Now if the board has the cards 6-9-A-6-3, then the player has trips. However, if the player has the hand 8-8 and the community cards are 5-4-7-8-A, then the player has a set.
The set is always considered higher in rank as compared to two pairs held by a player however, it is always considered poorer in rank to a straight or anything above it. In case a two players have sets in the same hand, then the player with the higher ranked set, according to the variation being player, if any, is awarded the win.
