Scare card

At times, a card may appear either as a face up card in stud poker or as a community card during one of the flush, turn or river draws, that may end up being extremely helpful to a player or two. In such a case, where a drawn card has the possibility of completing a strong hand for any player on the board, it is said to be a scare card.

While there isn’t any surety amongst the players that there could actually be a significant improvement, the appearance of a particular card, or cards, may increase the likelihood that if some player has something like that, then the hand would be extremely strong.

For e.g. if the flop shows up as J-Q-4 and the turn card is also a Jack, then the Jacks become scare cards as any player with a Jack in her/his hand can beat any pair or two pairs, hands down.
