Quarter
When a player is forced to share either the high or the low winnings in a high-low game with another player in the same segment, while the other half of the pot may or may not be shared between two players, then the player is said to have been quartered. Normally, this is an unwanted result as the player probably ends up putting a third of the value of the pot and ends up winning only a quarter.
For e.g. if three players have placed bets worth $20 each, into the pot in a high-low game, then the pot is divided into two parts, of $30 each with the total pot size being $60. If the high pot is won by one player, then s/he wins $30 and simultaneously, if the low pot is split between two players, then the two players have to divide the $30 winnings, making it $15 each.
So while each player put in $30 into the pot, they only end up winning $15 and are, therefore, said to be quartered.
