Qualifier, qualifying low
In a game of high-low split poker, players are often required to acquire a minimum hand value to be eligible for the lower half of the pot. For e.g. an 8-high pot rule requires the low contenders to have a card that is either 8 or above, while being the lowest hand in the round. Therefore, just having the smallest cards doesn’t count as much as satisfying the criteria for being eligible to compete for the lowest hand in the high-low game.
