Pocket pair
In a game of poker, especially in the Texas Hold’em variety, each player is handed out two cards that are known as the pocket cards for that player. If a player happens to receive a pair from the deck, as her/his pocket cards, then s/he is said to have a pocket pair.
Pocket pairs occur only in the case of community card poker and are formed without using any of the community cards placed on the board. A pocket pair is also known as a wired pair and any pair of numbers, be it 4-4 or 9-9 or Q-Q or even an A-A; is called a wired pair.
