Pair
A poker hand containing two cards of the same rank, with three other unmatched cards is known as one pair. Ranking above a high card hand, a pair is still considered less than all other poker hands. The rules are simple, wherein a higher ranking pair defeats a lower ranking pair, but in the case that both hands consist of the same pair, the remaining cards are compared in descending order to decide the winner amongst the two hands.
Now in poker, there are a total of 1,098,240 possible one pair hands, which implies that you have a nearly 43 % chance of landing one in a five-card hand, which in poker is quite high.
