Overpair
In a game of poker, if a player is dealt a hand where s/he has a pair that is higher, in rank, than any community card on the board, the player is said to have an overpair. For e.g. if a player is dealt the hand J-J while the community cards throw up 4-7-9, at the flop (in a game of Hold’em), then the player with the Jack-pair is said to have an overpair simply because the pair in her/his hand is higher than each card on the board.
