One-ended straight draw

A one-ended straight draw refers to a drawing hand where the player holds four cards out of the five required for the draw, with only one card being good enough to complete the straight. The card can be either higher or lower than the cards already held in the hand however unlike an inside straight draw or an open-ended straight draw, a one-ended straight draw requires a single card that can complete the straight from one end of the sequence only.

Technically, there are only two one-ended straight draw possibilities that are A-2-3-4 where 5 is the final card that can complete the sequence; and J-Q-K-A where a Ten is the only card that can complete the sequence, albeit from the lower side.

There are other situations where an one-ended straight draw can be referred as the hand that a player is drawing to, if s/he needs to win. For e.g. if a player has a hand 5-4 while another has the hand 7-9 and the cards on the board are 5-6-5-8. In such a case, the second player has the option of getting either a 4 or a 10 to win the round however, a 4 would complete a full house for the first player and therefore, hand her/him the pot.

In such a case, although the hand is an open-end straight draw, it ends up being a one-end straight draw as the player can only win if s/he draws a Ten.
