Kitty is the name that is given to a small pool of money that is created by picking out bits from many pots. The kitty is normally common in home or private games wherein the people would like to buy snacks or refreshments through contributions by everyone. So they pick out small amounts of money from each pot and that amounts adds up to something significant enough to buy refreshments, cards, etc.

A kitty is considered as the equivalent to a juice in a casino or a card room.
