Irregular declaration

An irregular declaration is a declaration by a player that is made by using a symbol, word or technique that is not considered “standard” by the casino, card room or tournament where the player uses the symbol. The player is not said to have made a definite or straightforward declaration of intent although the action or words may or may not be interpreted in the right way by the other players of the table.

Whether or not the other players understand the irregular declaration made by a player, it remains the prerogative of the house or dealer to decide whether or not that irregular declaration can be considered valid and binding to the player who has made it.

For e.g. instead of saying “Raise”, a player who intends to raise the pot may simply point upwards to signify a raise.
