Improve
To improve on one’s hand means to draw or complete a better hand than what a player had at an earlier point in the game. This sort of improvement can be achieved either through exchanging of cards or by simply adding to the existing hand under the rules of the game being played.
In a game of Texas Hold’em, a player gets a starting hand of 2-2. After the flop, the cards on the board are 4-2-2. After this, the player who started off with a pair of 2s, now has improved to a four of a kind hand.
