Drawing thin
In many cases, a player may decide to chance her/his luck and play on a hand despite having very little chances to win. When a person is dependent on the draw to get those cards that change her/his hand into a winning hand, then it is known as drawing thin. The difference between drawing dead and drawing thin is simply the fact that when a player is drawing dead, s/he will lose the hand despite completing the hand.
In the case of drawing thin, the player will lose the hand unless s/he gets the card that s/he wants. If the player manages to complete her/his hand, then s/he will surely win however, the chances for the player to complete the hand are quite bleak. In such a case the player is said to be drawing thin.
For e.g. in a game of Hold’em, if the player has a hand of 3-4, all spades, and the flop turns of 6 (Spades)-9(Diamonds)-2 (Hearts), then the player can continue to play with the hand and draw thin in the hopes of completing a straight flush. S/he will require specific cards such as the 5 of spades and either a 2 or 7 of spades to complete the straight flush.
Since the hand is considerably harder to complete, but a potentially winning hand if completed, the player is said to be drawing thin.
