Double up, double through

Often, the rate of betting and calling can raise the pot amount to a value that, when won by a particular player, will raise her/his stack’s value by double the amount that was present at the beginning of the hand. Double up or double through requires a player to bet her/his entire stack against a single opponent. If the player wins by going all in, and the total pot amount is double her/his bet since only one player against her/him had to match her/his bet, then the winning player is said to have doubled up.

Since the opponent has to match the betting amount of the player, therefore it is inevitable that the pot amount will be double of what the player has, when the player goes all in. In a case where the opponent is short of the calling amount, then it is not considered a double up. This situation occurs only when two people are directly playing against each other and the others have either folded without putting in anything, or are not a part of the game.
