Double suited

In the Omaha Hold’em style of poker, each player is dealt 4 hands to begin each round with. In this case, if a player receives two cards of the same suit and two others of a different, but common, suit, then the hand is said to be double suited.

If a player receives an Ace of Hearts and a 4 of Hearts along with a 9 of Spades and a Jack of Spades, then effectively the player has a pair of hearts and a pair of spades, thus giving her/him a double suited hand. When writing it in descriptions of poker games, the abbreviation “(ds)” is written along with the description of the hand. For e.g. AAJ8 (ds).
