Color change, color up
To colour up or go for a colour change usually refers to the act of exchanging smaller denomination chips for larger ones. Players tend to opt for such a process when they are part of a game where the ante has risen to such a level, that the smaller chips are too tedious to count and pay as a bet or blind.
In such cases, players tend to exchange smaller denomination chips for larger denominations and that makes things easier for them to count and handle as well. While this is a common feature in most casino games and house games, you may not find it happening at tournaments, especially towards the latter rounds of the tournament.
On online venues, there is no need for colour ups or colour changes simply because players do not handle real chips there and so, it is easy for people to bet at any amount.
If a player has 50 five dollar chips, then s/he may choose to exchange them for a couple of $25 chips so that s/he doesn’t have to spend the time counting and placing bets instead of simply rushing through that part by colour change or colour up. .
