Angle
An angle is basically any action, which though not against any rules, is still considered unethical. In fact, an angle is a move which generally does involve some sort of unfair tactics. The purpose of an angle is to take undue advantage of another player, and though not outright against the rules, it is definitely considered unethical.
For example, when a player miscalls one’s own hand intentionally just to cause a fold, s/he is said to played an angle. Another common angle is when some players deliberately place an odd number of chips in the pot, just so as to confuse an opponent on whether they meant to raise or call.
For example, if supposed Player A has bet $200, following which Player B adds $197 to the bet. Now Player A reveals his cards, which clearly beat Player B. But then if Player B says that he did not call Player A’s bet, and only put in $197, he is allowed to take back his chips. But on the other hand, in case Player B’s cards had been stronger, then he could have taken the entire pot without question. Player B can easily claim that he had meant to call and add the extra chips, thereby dragging the pot.
Though this particular angle is not allowed everywhere, it is a move players should watch out for. A player who indulges in such moves is known as an angle shooter.
