Air
Air has many meanings, depending on the way it is used, though they all generally mean the same. For example, the term giving air, refers to the practice of leading your opponent into believing that you are about to draw one or more cards, so that he might not fold, but instead would call, particularly in a lowball game.
This can also be achieved by letting the player know exactly how many cards you are about to draw, or just a general indication. The point of giving air, is to get the player into the pot. For example, “Give me some air, if you draw one card I will draw two” is a great way of giving air by letting the other player know how many cards you plan to draw if they don’t fold.
Another meaning of air states that nothing occurred or existed. For example, the statement, “The last bluff was nothing but total air”, indicates that the last bluff was actually a true bluff and not based on anything concrete.
Still another meaning of air, which is referred to by the term, “put air into”, indicates that a player usually ends up exposing his or her cards. So if a player puts a lot of air into his hand, then sitting next to him gives you an advantage, though unethical, as you can often see his cards. But some players might use this to their advantage, so it is best not to rely on a player’s visible cards.
