Squeeze play
If a player makes a raise while trying to bluff her/his opponents, and then proceeds to re-raise on the bluff in an attempt to force everyone out of the pot, then the players is said to be making a squeeze play. As the name suggests, the player’s attempt is to squeeze out all the players from the pot by re-raising on the bluff, which is just another way of convincing the other players that s/he really has bankable cards.
The squeeze bet is always quite large in size and to put it into perspective – a regular raise may take the betting to about 4 times the size of the big blind but in the case of a squeeze play, the bet is around 20 times or more, of the big blind. This sort of play follows a previous bet made by the player, who’s bluffing.
