Smooth call
A smooth call is a call that a player makes when s/he clearly has the stronger hand and in normal circumstances, would be expected to raise. The smooth call is a lure that a player uses to tell others that s/he doesn’t have a strong hand and is staying in probably because s/he is either drawing to a stronger hand, or simply because s/he is trying to see if something turns up.
Opponents look at the call and feel that the player may not have anything significant and therefore, they either go in with a raise or follow suit with a call. Therefore, by making a call with a strong hand, a player fools the others into misjudging the type of hand that s/he might have and therefore, ensure that the pot rises in value without actually raising it her/himself.
