A player is said to sell her/his hand in a game of split poker when s/he decides to bet less than the maximum amount that s/he can, despite having the strongest hand. This is always a deliberate move by the player to ensure that more people call the bet due to the lower betting amount and effectively, this allows the player to lure others into increasing the size of the pot rather than going all-in and scaring others away.

This form of baiting the players into betting works well when the player selling her/his hand has an extremely strong hand to begin with.
