In a high-low split game of poker, players need to declare whether they would like to compete for the high hand or the low hand depending on the cards that s/he holds. Players may also choose to go for both the high and the low pots especially when variations of the game are being player where a player might end up having both the high and the low hands.

In such a case, if a player does compete for both the high & low hands and ends up winning it, then s/he is said to have carried off a scoop.
