Represent
When a player plays as if s/he is holding a particular hand, then s/he is said to represent that particular hand. This doesn’t usually refer to an exact hand, but is more a representation of what could be the possible hand that a player is holding. It is more an indication of the strength of the hand and the level of betting, body and facial expressions as well as other factors help other players try and find the range of hands that a player could be representing.
For e.g. if the community cards on the board, after the river, are A-A-J-5-8, and a player begins betting heavily, then it could imply that the player is representing an Ace or a pair of Aces in hand. However, the player could also be looking at bluffing and in this case, s/he is said to be representing the cards that s/he pretends to have, rather than the cards that s/he has.
Similarly, if a player is trying to bluff people into believing that s/he has a poorer hand, then s/he actually represents the poorer hand, and not the real cards.
