Ratholing is an action that involves removing some of the chips that are a part of the stack of a player. For e.g. if a player has $4500 in chips in front of her/him, and removes $1500 from the stack and puts it in her/his pocket, then it is said to be a Rathole. Rathole is a prohibited phenomenon in public card rooms however it is not uncommon to see people Rathole during private and home games.

The term comes from rats who take things down into their holes, with them, for later. Similarly, this refers to poker players who are looking to store away some money from their winnings to ensure that they take something away from the game.
