At times, players tend to get a portion of, or a rebate on, the rake that they have paid during a round of poker. Rakeback, as it is called, isn’t given by the house, i.e. the casino or the card room, but is in fact given by an affiliate or another third-party. This source for the rakeback is not a part of the house and therefore, is not considered as a refund, full or partial, of the rake submitted.

There are different ways of paying the rake back and depending on the kind of venue of the poker game, the mode varies. While many online, as well as brick and mortar, card rooms prefer to give cash as a rakeback, casinos tend to offer freebies or extra chips as the rakeback. All real world or brick & mortar card rooms use rate cards to keep a track of their rakes and their rakebacks. These rate cards are also used when paying back the rakes to the players.
