There are times when a player may feel that s/he has a strong enough hand to bet high and win the pot. However, later they might feel otherwise but at that point, they may have bet so much into the pot already, that folding would simply mean throwing away all the money without a fight.

In such a state, players may feel compelled to stay in the pot and this situation is called pot-committed. This sort of a situation occurs normally when the pot size is too large compared to the size of the stack that a player has in front of her/him. The player begins to feel committed mainly because of the amount that has already been bet, by her/him, into the pot.
