In a game of jackpots, a player needs to hold a certain set of cards or have cards of a particular value or better, to open the game. These cards are known as openers. In cases where cards have to be discarded, a player may hold onto a discarded card simply to prove that s/he had the necessary cards to open, despite discarding it later. In such a case, the discarded card is known as splitting openers.
