Fixed limit, flat limit
In a fixed limit game of poker, a player is only given the choice of choosing whether to bet or not. The value or amount of the bet is always preset according to the rules. In case of home games, these rules are set by mutual agreement while in tournaments and casinos, including on online venues, the amount is decided by the dealer or the house.
Bluffing is a major part of poker and to ensure that even the fixed limit game is not devoid of bluffing with bets, the concept of the game allows a player to place a big bet.
Due to the same amount of each bet being put into the game, the fixed amount automatically doubles at some point of time.
As an example, consider a 4-round game where it is pre-decided that the first two rounds will allow fixed bets of $2 while the latter two rounds will allow bets of $4 only. The big bet in this case in the $4 version and is only used in the third or fourth rounds. Thus, even in the fixed limit format of the game, there is plenty of scope of betting as this amount i.e. $2 or $4, is not limited to each round, but to each bet.
This basically means that in each round, a player may bet $2, be raised by $2 and then again raise by $2 and so on.
