In a casino, normally the poker area always has a main table that has the games with the biggest stakes. This table normally has a number of other tables that are associated to it. The second or third table also plays the same game as the main table and when there are as many empty seats on the main table as there are players on the second table, the players get up from the second table and move up into the main table.

This process is continued for the tables behind the second table as well and in this way, each table feeds players to the main table and is thus known as a feeder.
