Duplicate
When playing lowball poker, duplicating is said to be the act of getting a card that is of the same value as a card already placed in one’s hand.
In lowball, this makes a difference as players are looking to make the worst hand and having a pair at that point of time gives the hand a stronger chance to win. For e.g. when playing lowball in Omaha Hold’em, player A has a hand 2-7-T-J while player B has the hand A-2-8-K.
The flop comes as 3-5-6 and that means that player A’s hand turns into 2-3-5-6-7 while player B’s hand is now A-2-3-5-6. In such a case, player B is currently leading the race for the lowest card mainly due to the Ace in her/his hands. If however, the turn card ends up being an Ace, then B’s Ace in hand will be duplicated and B will end up with a pair, giving her/him a higher hand.
Duplicating is also another name for counterfeiting.
