Chopping the blinds
Chopping the blinds is the name given to a situation at play when all players fold before the flop. Since they are all folding to the blinds, all the blinds need to do is remove their bets and the hands are theirs. Cash games often see many players chopping the blind however in tournaments, it is not allowed. The small blind, in tournaments, is not allowed to pull their bet back in and that means that they either have to fold, or place a bet to call or raise the big blind.
If the small blind also folds, then that amount goes to the big blind as well.
Chopping the blinds is quite a rare occurrence, even on the Internet. Most players chop the blind mainly because they don’t have good enough cards. As a result, they may not like to pay the rake for a hand, that they firmly believe, will not yield any good results in the round.
Many people do not like to play head-on games and prefer playing only when they see other players also placing their bets. They are usually a little “scared” of going it alone and feel a little more confident playing a round only when there are other people involved in it as well.
Chopping is considered somewhat unethical despite being quite a common occurrence especially when players who know each other, come up against one another.
