To chip up in a game of poker refers to the action of players who are looking to upgrade their chips from lower denominations to higher denominations. This is also considered as a way to remove all small chips from the playing table without calling in a chip race. Unlike a chip race, a chin up is carried out by individual players and is a direct upgrade of chips with the dealer.

Chip up is also considered as the term given to the act of winning small pots with minimal risk in order to increase a player’s stack steadily over a longer period of time.
