Bubble

A bubble is the last position before the payout structure of a tournament comes into play. It is the title normally given to the last player to be eliminated from the competition before the final round begins. In most tournaments, especially at the international level, the finals are usually a televised affair.

So in a case where 5 players will end up playing in front of a television audience, and when the finals will be televised, then in such a case, the player in 7th place is said to have gone out on a TV bubble.

In general terms, bubble is a word used to describe a situation where a player has been eliminated from the tournament near the payout structure. In the finals, every player gets a certain amount of money and that ensures that there is some sort of compensation for everyone. However, a player eliminated on the bubble is said to have been eliminated on the last step before s/he can be entitled to that compensation.
