Act/Action
The term used to indicate that it is a particular player’s turn to act, or make a move. Also the act of betting and raising is also known as action, and it is commonly used in sentences such as, if a third heart is placed on the board, followed by a lot of action, then one of the players has just made a flush.
Usually, when it is a players turn, but s/he fails to realize that, the dealer says, “Your action, sir/madam” to remind the player that it is their turn. In a more general sense, when a game is said to have a lot of action, it means that there is a large amount of bets and raising happening.
Apart from this, an action is also the portion of the pot that any player can win a multiple of, but it is always less than the full bet. For example, if in a game, Player A bets $200, following which Player B calls the whole pot, and when it is your turn to call, you find out that you have only $50. What this means is that you have $50 worth of action in the pot. So when you call, a side pot is made for Player A and Player B worth $100, then Player A and Player B put a $50 in the main pot each, as well as your bet. Now you stand to win $150 from the main pot.
