Tournaments Made Simple

Here you'll get everything you need to start playing online poker tournaments right away!

What is a tournament?

A poker tournament is a game where all players start off with the same amount of chips. This is usually 1500 chips on EuroPoker.com. Unless you are playing a Freeroll all the players have to contribute to the prize money by paying the buy-in. The buy-in can take the form of real money, a ticket or play money.

There are 2 basic types of poker tournaments – sit & go and scheduled. A sit & go tourney will start as soon as the table is full – when all the players have registered - and the scheduled tourney starts at a specific time.

How to find tournaments:

When you open either the java poker (website) or windows poker (download version) you have a choice to view ring games or tournaments. Simply click on the tournaments tab to find the available tournaments.

How to register:

Registration for sit & go tournaments can be anytime as long as they are open, and scheduled tournaments are usually open for registration one and a half hours before the tournament starts.

To register for a tournament that you would like to play in, click on the tournament with a status of ‘Open’ and it should then highlight in blue. Then press the ‘Go to Tournament’ button. Next, click on the ‘Register’ button. As long as you have the correct balance or the correct ticket in your account you will be registered and your name will then be entered into the list of players. The list is in alphabetical order so scroll down to find your name in the list. You will now see the button has changed to ‘Unregister’. You can cancel your registration for any tournament any time before it starts by pressing this button. To play in a scheduled tourney simply make sure you are in the lobby a few minutes before the tournament starts and you will be automatically seated when the tournament begins.

Private/Public Tourneys

Tournaments can be divided into 2 other types – Public or Private. As the terms suggest, Public Tournaments are open to all so long as they have paid the required buy-in. Private Tournaments, however, are restricted. The individual players that take part must know the password in order to enter. These types of tourney are usually set up by a group of friends who would like to compete against each other without uninvited guests joining in.

Payout Structures

What is the prize structure for a regular single table Sit & Go tourney?

The prize structure for Sit & Go tourneys is as follows:
10 players : 1st place: 50% 2nd place: 30% 3rd place: 20%
5 players : 1st place: 70% 2nd place 30%
2 players : 1st place: 100%

All prizes are also minus your initial buy-in, e.g. for a $10+1 buy-in tourney 2nd place prize is $30 - $11 = $19.

Multi-Table Tournament

For multi-table tournaments the payouts structure vary.

To view the payout structure, left click on the tournament of interest and then click on the view payouts link in the prize pool section.

Most tournaments have a regular payout structure, where the majority of the prize is distributed more among the top players. A flat payout structure is where the prize pool is divided more equally throughout the players in the money – hence the gradient is flatter.
